 Workshop Terms and Conditions
                        2025

COVID Policy updates 2025!  CDC restrictions have relaxed!  Masks are used at everyone's discretion. Obviously things can change and I will update as information allows.

This policy covers workshops held at The Silk Thread location in Franklinton, NC. Other locations and venues where I hold workshops have contracted with me to teach and have their own policies!  It also covers my online workshops. Sorry about the formality and legalize of the wording but it is now a standard artist policy. Much in it does not actually pertain to what I teach in my studios but it is designed to cover all bases!

So please read the entire cancellation policy before signing up for my studio workshops. This helps avoid any misunderstandings. When you register, you are acknowledging that you have read the entire terms and conditions policy and agree to them!

  1. All registrations made online from my website for each workshop https://www.thesilkthread.com

  2. Most of my 1 and 2 day workshops are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm EST unless otherwise specified.

By signing up for a workshop, you agree to these terms:

DEPOSITS reserve your place in the workshop and help me determine how many students will be attending. All of my workshops, with the exception of my 1 day workshops, are set up to initially pay the deposit with the balance due 2 weeks before the start of the workshop.  If you would like to pay the remaining balance in installments, please let me know.

A deposit is your commitment to join the workshop. Your deposit does not typically sit in an account. Because all of my workshops at my studio are “supplies included”, your deposit is used to cover initial expenses for the workshop like registration costs, material acquisitions and additional supplies. For this reason, The Silk Thread studio has a strict cancellation policy and is required to charge cancellation fees to cover these costs to participants who change their plans.

Workshops are considered as “PENDING” until Minimum Enrollment of 3 students (in my studio) has been met. Once Minimum enrollment has been met, registered students will receive a confirmation email notifying them that the class has been “CONFIRMED”. If you do not receive an email acknowledging receipt of any payment you make within 24 hours, please check your spam folder!

At this time those students who are traveling can begin making travel arrangements. Class Description will be noted as CONFIRMED on the website so that potential students know the status. Once this email has been sent out the Class is officially scheduled. AT THIS POINT: THERE ARE NO REFUNDS (you may however send a replacement student in your place. The reason for this is that supplies will be ordered at this point, other students have made plans, and your cancellation could affect all registered students if the class has the minimum enrollment)

  • ALL cancellations are subject to a $50 cancellation fee.

  • Workshop enrollment is limited because of my studio space. I try to limit classes to 8 students. A minimum number of 3 students are needed for the class to be held in my studio. The Studio may wait up until 30 days before a class is scheduled to cancel due to low enrollment or at my discretion.

  • Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cancellations and Refunds Will Be Handled as Follows

  • MORE THAN 45 DAYS BEFORE WORKSHOP:  Cancellation Fee of $50 will be deducted from Deposit:

  • BETWEEN 45- 30 DAYS BEFORE WORKSHOP: Deposit Forfeited with Deposit Payment only; Deposit + cancellation fee for full payments

  • LESS THAN 30 DAYS BEFORE WORKSHOP: No refunds will be given and all payments will be forfeited. Full payment is required no later than 20 days prior to workshop. If full payment is not received by this date you will be notified by email. If you do not respond within 3 business days, your spot will be forfeited and offered to participants on the waiting list.

STUDIO CANCELLED WORKSHOPS:

If The Silk Thread is forced to cancel a scheduled workshop for any reason, your entire payment will be transferred to another comparable workshop within one calendar year.

  • WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO CANCEL A WORKSHOP?  The Silk Thread does everything possible to NOT cancel a workshop. I understand participants have made travels plans so canceling a workshop would be an incredible inconvenience. It is highly recommended that travel insurance be purchased.

  • The only time I will cancel a workshop is if class minimum enrollment is not met or in an emergency that can’t be ignored. Frankly, until COVID arrived, I have never canceled a workshop! Any act of God, including but not limited to hurricanes, pandemics, earthquakes, government mandates, etc. that causes a cancellation of the workshop beyond the control of The Silk Thread Studio will result in the transfer enrollment to another Studio Workshop to be used within 1 year. Workshops affected by this will ALWAYS BE RESCHEDULED.

  • Once a class is wait listed, there are NO Refunds UNLESS your space can be filled; you may send a replacement to fill your space.

  • All information provided to the The Silk Thread Studio is kept confidential and is NOT shared, sold, or otherwise used by any entity

  • I do not keep credit card information on file for the purpose of charging balances. Please contact us or use the web site to pay the balance

  • If a class is cancelled by the Studio due to insufficient enrollment, tuition will be transferred in full or you can choose a credit for an alternative class on our schedule to be taken within a 1-year TIME-FRAME.

  • The Studio is not responsible for providing make-up classes or issuing refunds, credits, or transfers for sessions missed because of illness, emergencies, or other events beyond our control.

  • The Silk Thread Studio reserves the right to reschedule or cancel workshops due to circumstances beyond its control

STUDENT CANCELLATIONS:

  • Participant cancellations must be made in writing by mail, or email (theresa@thesilkthread.com) No phone calls or texts, please.

  • Classes are considered to be either “confirmed” or “unconfirmed” Cancellation by the student in ” will result in forfeiture of all payments made; however, – The transfer must be made to another workshop within a 1 year period. You may ONLY transfer this balance 1 time; if you cancel again your payment is subject to normal cancellation policies. I cannot carry student credits for longer than 1 year as it becomes an accounting nightmare. You may also transfer your space to another student without penalty.

  • If the withdrawal request is received over 60 days prior to the start of the event, registration/ deposit will be refunded. .

  • Registrations can typically be transferred to another of my workshops (within 1 year) without penalty, but must be requested at the time of cancellation

  • For withdrawals after a workshop has been confirmed or “no-shows,” full tuition/ materials is forfeited.
